My more recent and relevant market research has lead me to Yrurari. A very captivating, experimental knitter who I believe would have a market similar to the one that I would be aiming The Hungry Ghost at.

Yrurari works with 3D knitted clothing, jumpers mainly. All collections seem to follow a theme or a story and all featuring 3D aspects, shark features, mouths with lips, teeth and tongues!, faces, different foods...all can be seen in the Market Research section of The Hungry Ghost page.

I felt really inspired after watching this stop motion video. The video is clearly telling a story, which gave me many different ideas for how to convey The Journey of The Hungry Ghost.

My work is moving in a more sculptural direction, and the more obvious quirks and literal translations of the story that I initially wanted to work with; monster eyes, monster teeth beads, the ghost eye branding, might be better translated in another fun, interactive way.

My initial idea was to design a hungry ghost character who then eats all of the final pieces as they make their way through the journey...
