The carnival needs to be a bit of everything, it needs to be over whelming and exciting to see.
It needs to be a crazy combination of the different sculptural shapes, pattern and decoration.
Decided:
It needs to hang low.
It needs to have tassels with a lot of bells that people walk through to stand underneath the lantern.
It needs to be made up of different panels, each one different.
Its going to be a hexagon, 3 sections with 6 panels in each.
Its not going to be a light, only decorative.
It needs to have pattern.
Things to consider:
How low does it need to be? - make a mock up with calico to experiment and develop scale?
Pattern? - Use primary research to find pattern inspiration - temples, fabrics, architecture, street art. Use secondary research of the festival for inspiration from costume design.
What will it look like inside? - If someone is going to be able to standing inside the lantern it needs to be exciting and well finished on the inside as well as the outside. I could make pockets and stuff the panels to add to the texture, this would also be a fairly straight forward way to make the inside as interesting as the outside.
- Start experimenting with that on samples.
