The Lamp
The UV yarn reacts well in UV light even with a little bit of normal lighting. I thought having a lamp with a UV bulb placed next to the chair will show the UV yarn and demonstrate how it reacts and looks in the UV light, when it isn't situated in the dark.
I had initially wanted to design a lamp for part two of the story, I had designed that using the frame of a 1960's tassel lamp, I felt like using the same frame, but for a side lamp instead was a good way of combining the ideas.
A close friend of mine is a ceramist, she is designing and making the base of the lamp. The chair is inspired by different types of cacti, by the textures and colours found within them, rather than a literal translation of a cacti. The base of the lamp and fabric for the lamp needs to maintain this. Rather than designing a base that resembles a cacti, I wanted to recreate the lumpy textures and use a glaze that blends different shades of green.
The lamp cover is now finished, I have used the chunky e-wrapping technique with the natural wools, as found on the chair, along with a trim of the red feather yarn, tinsel, then decorated with monster teeth. Photos of the finished lamp still to come once its frame is fitted to the base.
