Since making some big decisions on the direction of The Hungry Ghost, I have begun refining my ideas for the final collection, being 4 pieces of furniture. I have been developing samples for each part of the story and feel like the project is developing more of an identity.
I have a very clear idea in my mind for my portfolio; a website and a stop motion video which would be presented in the exhibition as well. Working with sensory elements including lighting and glow in the dark yarn and trying to achieve all 4 pieces mostly by hand has made making certain decisions more of a necessity.
Things to consider...
- will I need a dark space?
- how important is showing the glow in the dark yarn in the exhibition? can that be achieved through a video?
- I'd need help to make a video, try and find some videography/media students who could help or collaborate.
- I'm going to make a chair cover, what kind of chair do you need? where can you look? antique stores?
- I need to consider how interactive each piece will be, will people be able to sit on the chairs?
- I need to get some samples from power knit, explore the potential pattern design and sculptural options
Successes so far....
- I do believe that the project has a strong aesthetic and branding; logo, website style blog, sketchbooks and studio space
- Using the folklore tale has provided huge inspiration and project direction
- The concept has developed smoothly without any real interruptions - My knitting skills have been getting stronger and my samples more technical
- Experimenting with partial knitting has given me many different techniques to take forward and a strong link between each part of the story.
