The design of the frame of the lantern has undertaken a long, slow process. The overall size of the frame has caused some delays when working out the most effective way to make it secure and as minimal and discreet as possible. Mark and I had ordered steel bars for the frame and the first attempt in metal was made. The steel was too thin and without excess attachments it will struggle to hold its shape and rotate securely.

We have ordered thicker steel which needs to be rolled by machinery, but it shouldn't add much more weight to the overall design.

We have discussed using different types of rope to attach the bars together, based on advice given by the technical staff, 4 pieces of rope attaching each bar should be sufficient to provide the required strength and safety. They will be attached and secured to each bar by a small join. Considerations for how we will cover these or paint them etc can be made once the frame is in place.
