I always envisioned that this part of the story would be conveyed by a light of some sorts. I like the idea of a free standing lamp because of the height. It allows for things like long tassels, bells and through the use of colour a way to demonstrate the ghosts journey from one place to another. From the base of the lamp, to the lamp shade at the top.
Things to consider:
What shape of lampshade? Lantern like or something contrasting? I initially imagined a vintage 60's style lampshade with tassels and decorative trims.
Pops of neon uv yarn so will I use a UV lightbulb? - Continue that experimentation when sampling.
Pattern? - Use punchcards to develop some pattern, try using punchcards and partial knit together.
Fading of colour from dark to light - experiment with that through sampling.
The base needs to be at least half a meter to emphasis the cacti mountain cover - to be seen as a continuation of the chair, the ghost moving on out of the forest towards the carnival, towards the light.
The addition of bells is to represent the tradition of wearing bells during the street celebration in The Hungry Ghost Festival. The ghosts are getting closer and can begin to hear them jingling.
