As my research delved deeper into the folklore tale of the Hungry Ghost I began thinking more conceptually about my project. Rather than just using the visual inspiration from the street festival, I started to consider how I could try to convey the journey of the ghosts through my interior collection. By breaking down the tale I can begin to consider what sensory elements to work with:
Things to consider: - Resentment towards the Prince
- The Forest: A dark place overrun with hungry ghosts and spirits from the netherworld
- Forgiveness and rejoice
- The Sound of celebration
- Appeasement through music, dance, feasts and colour
- Bells ringing on costumes- Incense being lit- Ghost being sent back to the netherworld via lit lanterns and floating candles
By taking the story and breaking it down further into four areas I have considered the above and drafted up an initial guide for researching and choosing yarns, textures, colour and decoration:
